Christensen back

Bo Pelini has reinstated Senior OG Andy Christensen following his acquittal on assault charges. Last month Christensen pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and criminal mischief in connection with the case.

Pelini said that Christensen would resume practice this week but would be suspended for this weekend’s game against New Mexico State.

This move adds depth and quality to the O-line, and should help the Husker’s offense overall. However, it raises the issue as to whether or not it is a smart decision to reinstate someone who has admitted to denting a police cruiser and resisting arrest. Forget about the sexual assault charges, as Christensen has been acquitted on the charges, but is adding someone with those off-field issues a good decision?

Talent wise I can’t see anything bad about adding Christensen – an outstanding offensive gaurd – but with a team that is still learning new systems and coaching staff, outside distractions could proove to be extremely detrimental. Maybe I’m wrong, in fact I hope I’m wrong. But I just don’t see how in the end, adding Christensen to the team again helps the Huskers in the long run.
